We had the honor of meeting a real life author! Ryan Sloth has played football for Iowa State, Iowa Barnstormers, and other teams across the USA. He has also been in a few movies! He shared some of his books with us and shared how he became an author. We had a great time!
Yesterday, we read our natural cycle nonfiction books to the 4th graders. They worked VERY hard on their books. I forgot to take pictures when the 4th graders actually came, so I apologize. The books went home yesterday with your child. I made copies of everyone's book and put them in their portfolio.
We had to take a break from math to check out the first snow fall!! I have never heard so many cheers!
Had to share! We learned how to use a number line for an addition strategy. For this activity, they had to put the numbers in order. I gave them an addition sentence and they had to use the their number line to solve the problem.
Today we built sight words with play dough. If you have play dough at home have students build the letters then smash each letter as they spell the word aloud.
We have had read the 3 different versions of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Pickles to Pittsburgh, and Planet of the Pies.
Today students chose a food they wished would rain on them! I will be hanging their answers in the hallway! Stop by and check them out! We are learning the addition strategy doubles and doubles +1. We have been working very hard at learning our doubles, so we can use them to help us solve other addition equations. Students are sorting the doubles and the matching double +1.
We had a lot of fun playing this game. It is a basketball hangman game. Students had to pick letters to create short vowel words. I plan to use this with sight words too. This is will be an independent game during rotations.
Here is another activity you can do at home. I typed up a sentence and printed it off. I then cut up the words. Students then have to place the words in the correct order for it to make sense. Students could then write the sentences or come up with their own!
